There is a good market
for the ore. The product is
that rare breed of ultra-low
phosphorous iron orewith good
calcined iron grades of around
62%
Fe. Further marketable
ore is potentially available
from the upgrading of lower
grade ores with preliminary
metallurgical
test
work
indicating good responses
to beneficiation.
We aim to expand the projected initial mine life of eight
to 10 years by further exploration and metallurgical work. The
majority of the BIF remains largely untested and we are yet to
fully explore the iron ore potential. In locations where we have
completed drilling, substantial widths of mineralisation have
been encountered pointing to the very real upside for project
mine life,” he said.
The company has successfully joint ventured a number
of projects, typically free carried through to production, and
its philosophy remains to develop new projects through
joint venture to expose shareholders to potential exploration
successes over a range of properties whilst concentrating on
developing its solely owned key assets. Significant progress has
been occurring at the Hamersley iron ore, Earaheedy iron ore
and the Illogwa copper-gold joint ventures.
Winmar Resources is further developing the Hamersley
project near Fortescue Metals Group’s Solomon project. A major
resource upgrade was recently announced, with the current
inferred resource standing at 368Mt @ 54.7% Fe (58.0% CaFe).
The deposit remains open in several directions.
Anglo American, the global diversified mining house, has a
farm-in agreement over the Earaheedy Joint Venture (JV) with
both Cazaly and Vector Resources Ltd.
Clive Jones said, “The project occurs in a potentially very
large, newly recognised iron ore province in WA’s Earaheedy
Basin. It is great to have a company with the diverse skill base
that Anglo American has to offer on board.”
A joint venture with Mithril Resources Ltd (80%) in the
Northern Territory is currently focusing on the Illogwa
iron oxide copper gold target area. The target area is an
approximately 50 kilometre long belt of anastomosing shear
zones variably characterised by siliceous veining and strong
haematite, fluorite and copper mineralisation.
Clive Jones describes Illogwa as “a rare find” and comments,
It is not often that an untested, highly mineralised belt of
rocks is discovered in Australia. We are champing at the bit to
get into it!”
