Stage three will encompass the exploration and development
of the joint venture partner’s massive Hercules iron ore deposit.
Exploration drilling, focusing on the potential for high-grade
goethite/hematite, will commence at Hercules after current
drilling at Wilcherry Hill is completed. With successful drilling
the throughput is planned to increase to 8-12Mtpa.
During 2012, IronClad undertook a comprehensive review
of its entire ‘mine to port’ logistics chain, appraising all
methodologies and costings in order to optimise prospective
mining costs.
Detailed infill drilling at Wilcherry’s Weednanna prospect
(
and now to be expanded to the other prospects) indicated
successful conversion of ore from gravity plant feed category to
high grade DSO type, which could indicate significant
improvements to the project’s overall economics through
prospective DSO tonnage upgrades.
In preparation of stage one, IronClad is finalising its
mining, crushing and haulage contracts. DSO and DMS ore
will be separately crushed, and cost savings are anticipated by
using a single stage impact crusher producing both fine and
lump (+6.3mm) ore. Additionally, the lump ore may achieve
premium prices.
The South Australian Government has granted port
development approval, and the bitumen roads set to service the
project provide good access into the mine and the port facilities
at Lucky Bay. The company has secured port access with 50
hectares of land set aside for IronClad port operations, and the
Franklin Harbour Council appears likely to approve IronClad’s
use of the Kimba to Cowell road.
