Curtin’s “The Business of Mining” launches

WA mining sector leaders will be showcased around the world from next month as Curtin launches an online course on The Business of Mining.

The course, featuring insights and expertise WA companies, is available to anyone around the world thanks to a partnership with edX.

Curtin initiated the MOOC program in 2013 with the “Uncovering the Secrets of the Universe: course attracting more than 1,500 students.

In May it announced a new course – The Business of Mining – through its MOOC program, which is also being launched on the global edX platform.

EdX partners include many of the world’s top ranked universities recognised for cutting-edge technologies with a reputation for offering the best of higher education online.

WA Mining Club partner Platform Communications was instrumental in assisting the formation of the Business of Mining MOOC by bringing a diverse range of mining industry leaders together to share experience and expertise.

As Western Australia’s only marketing and communications company dedicated to the resources industry, Platform Communications was approached by Curtin University to assist in developing the course towards the end of 2014.

Eight months on and Curtin University has successfully created the curriculum which will feature a range of leading mining companies including Sundance Resources, Toro Energy and Sirius Resources.

WA Mining Club board members and Platform Founding Principal Kirsty Danby also forms parts of the curriculum offering her insight of stakeholder engagement to help course participants understand social impacts and factors for obtaining a social licence to operate.

Students are able to enrol in The Business of Mining course, which will begin on July 1.
