Photographer Peter Eastway was similarly captivated. His images
capture the incredible light and majestically layered vistas of the many
ranges which fringe this part of the Pilbara. Like Fox, Eastway was
taken by the confluence of mining and natural heritage. A particular
photograph, taken near Newman, shows mined outcrops rising behind
untouched hills blanketed in low lying vegetation and petite gum trees
common to the area

FORM has more events planned for
The Pilbara Project
. In 2012, an
edited version of the
52 Weeks On
exhibition will tour to Melbourne
where it will be on show at the Sofitel Hotel Collins Street in May, June
and July. FORM will also launch the second
Pilbara Project
exhibition
in February. Larry Mitchell is one of Western Australia’s most skilled
landscape painters and his work is held in collections throughout the
world. Mitchell travelled with
The Pilbara Project
crew throughout the
changing seasons of 2010. His solo exhibition will launch the collection
of super-sized landscapes he created as part of his travels. Like the
photography exhibition, Larry Mitchell’s exhibition will be split into
two venues: FORM Gallery in Perth and the Port Hedland Courthouse
Gallery. The intention of staging concurrent exhibitions is twofold.
The first is to return
The Pilbara Project
to the people and communities
who made it. The second is to literally bring the Pilbara to the city,
allowing more people to see it for what it really is: a paradoxical, unique,
breathtaking and important region which will continue to inspire
people, artists or otherwise, for years to come.

The photographers spent a lot of time
around the Burrup Peninsula, part of the
Dampier Archipelago, during the making
of
52 Weeks On
. They were all fascinated
by the intriguing industrial forms offered
by the variety of mining operations at
work in the area – from iron ore to
salt to gas and related industries.
