EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
MINERS’ PROMISE
Should some permanently disabling tragedy befall you in the
course of your work or even outside it, then knowing that your
family and dependents will be professionally supported can be
immensely comforting for your peace of mind. Miners’ Promise is
an independent, not-for-profit organisation that supports members’
families at times of crisis and in matters as wide-ranging as attending
to practical arrangements through to organising trauma counselling
and financial provision. To explain more about its vital services,
and the high esteem in which the organisation is held in the eyes
of those having sadly experienced a need for such help, is the
organisation’s Executive Director, Cassie White.
Thanks for everything you have done. No words can express how
grateful we are.
The words are bittersweet. As a testimonial for
a new organisation like Miners’ Promise, what more could we
want? But these are feelings born of tragedy – a young resource
worker’s death.
His family was devastated; in emotional despair at the most
desperate time of their lives. Miners’ Promise made a difference at
that moment, and will continue to do so as time goes on, supporting
members’ families as they re-build their shattered lives.
Miners’ Promise has been established out of necessity,
premised on an archetypal Australian value – mateship. It is the
only independent support service for resources industry workers
and their families at times of death or permanent disability.
“Those are the moments when families shatter,” says Ian
Fletcher, the inaugural chairman of Miners’ Promise and, along
with Helen Fitzroy, a driving force in its establishment.
