ver the last 35 years,
Beilby has been at
the forefront of the
recruitment industry
across Australia. In
Western Australia, the consultants at
Beilby have forged strong relationships
with a number of industry leaders
in the resources sector, which have
enabled them to gain a significant
understanding
of
the
business
challenges facing industry.
Nick Verkerk, General Manager of
Beilby says, “The ebbs and flows of the
global businessmarkets and subsequent
recessions around the world did impact
the resourcing sector in Perth in 2008
and for a while there ensued a period
of consolidation through 2009 to 2010.
From our perspective we still see the
roller coaster effect of business and
economic confidence; however, it’s very
much business as usual and the only
‘constant’ is change!”
The old adage ‘the war for talent’ is
still very much alive, and in Australia
many would argue that we are
the envy of the world with our
abundance of natural resources and
a relatively buoyant economy, both
fuelling strong economic growth at
previously unseen levels.
A statement from the
West Australian
newspaper (9 September 2011) reports:
‘Australia stands poised to capitalise
on an economic transformation
unparalleled in the nation’s history,
with a resources and commodities
boom capable of generating $480
billion of exports in the next 20 years
and creating 750,000 jobs’. It went on
to clarify that the growth in the mining
sector will have a ripple effect into the
services, education and tourism sectors.
Beilby works across a number of
sectors from finance, government
and consulting to mining, and oil
and gas. From daily conversations,
Beilby consultants understand that the
demand for quality candidates in the
market far and away outstrips supply,
and empathise with a CEO who recently
stated, “Senior management talent can
be described as the ‘new oil — hard to
find, difficult to extract and difficult
to deliver.”
In response Beilby has adopted
a consultative approach to assist
organisations manage their talent
supply. The company reports a
significant increase in enquiries
from CEOs asking for guidance and
support with the strategic approaches
surrounding
talent
management
issues which encompass the attraction,
development and retention of people.
Clients are looking for a ‘strategic
resourcing
capability’
whereby
recruitment is not just seen as a
single assignment in isolation. Instead
there is a desire for complimentary
services, which either help boost the
existing HR capacity for recruitment
or alternatively create a capability for
strategic resourcing where one does not
currently exist.
