ne mine in one country to four mines in three
countries is the past and the near future of
Kingsgate Consolidated. With geopolitical
diversification, Kingsgate is increasing gold
production and growing its resource base,
and (with exploration upside) is well on the way to becoming
a world-class gold miner rather than a mid-size ASX listed
Australian company with one gold mine in Thailand.
The world class Chatree gold mine in the rural heartland
of Thailand remains the cornerstone operation for Kingsgate.
A strong commitment to near mine exploration is growing
the gold resource from a base of over 4 million ounces and
supporting a major US$125 million expansion of operations
in Thailand to a production rate of 200,000 ounces of gold per
annum. The expansion is expected to produce first gold in third
quarter 2011, and active exploration is also uncovering new
gold discoveries in the country.
From early February 2011 Kingsgate has added the
100,000 ounce per annum Challenger
gold mine in South Australia following
the acquisition of Dominion Mining Ltd.
Challenger is providing a solid production
base with potential resource growth, and it
also adds key underground mining skills
into Kingsgate. A renewed focus on the
exploration potential close to the surface is
delivering results. A broad West Australian
exploration portfolio has projects in the
South West Yilgarn and in the world class
Tropicana Belt in Western Australia.
Kingsgate owns 70% of Laguna Resources
NL where it is undertaking a feasibility
study on the advanced Arqueros gold/silver
project in the highly prospective Maricunga
Gold Belt in Central Chile. The addition
of the Esperanza and Chimberos lease
areas, including identified resources, has
significantly enhanced the project. Arqueros
is predominantly silver and now has a
resource base of over 1.8 million ounces
gold equivalent and is expected to come
into production in 2013 at around 100,000
ounces of gold equivalent per annum.
