GAS IGNITES NEW FUEL OPTIONS
CSIRO is collaborating with industry to create cleaner synthetic
transport fuels. Scientists at CSIRO’s new SynCat facility are
developing processes, to convert natural gas, biomass and coal into
cleaner liquid fuels. The conversion processes will be more efficient,
cost less and have a lower environmental impact than current
conventional methods. Research by CSIRO and industry at SynCat
will enable increased local production of transport fuels and add
value to Australia’s conventional and unconventional gas resources,
contributing to our energy security.
GEOLOGICAL INFORMATION AT A CLICK
An online network of geospatial data will enable mining industry
explorers and researchers to access Australia’s geological
information at the click of a button. Developed by CSIRO and
AuScope in collaboration with research organisations around the
country, the data network and its supporting infrastructure – the
Spatial Information Services Stack (SISS) – is an open-access network
that allows users to discover, browse, save and process geospatial
information from earth science data sources around Australia.
It will allow users to gain a greater understanding of climate change,
sustainable energy, water and mineral resources and extreme
geological activity such as earthquakes.
