Beauty, camaraderie, hard work and history celebrated
Every year the standard of photographic expertise on display in the annual
Snowden photographic exhibition seems to reach new heights. A mountain
of international talent has once again risen to the challenge of capturing
the beauty and faces of the global resources industry. Showcased here in
Minesite
are a few of the winning gems from the 2012 contest, illustrating
the pictorial intrigues of mining at different locations around the world.
The mining industry never fails to arouse emotion in those who come in contact with it, and this was
certainly the case with the entries into Snowden’s 2012 photo competition entitled ‘Celebrating the
Mining Industry’. The company, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has good reason to
celebrate the industry through its annual photo competition – an exceptional opportunity to promote the
industry in which it has been involved for 25 years, and which touches so many aspects of our lives.
This year’s overall winner was Javier Arcenillas from Spain with his photo titled “The industrialization
of Lithium in Bolivia” winning the $10,000 first prize. Javier was exposed to mining from a young age in
Bilbao, Spain where he grew up near mining activity.
