link organisations together, building a
partnership able to leave a lasting legacy
well after the shared project or
relationship might have concluded
Some of our own successes include:
$4.5 million partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor
Service, which launched the
Rio Tinto Life Flight
jet in
2009.
This partnership, which has just been renewed for
another four years, was in response to a pressing need
for better health emergency services in remote areas,
particularly in the Kimberley and Pilbara.
Foundation partner of the State Library of WA’s
Better
Beginnings Family Literacy
program. This program has
already reached over 40,000 families and is being
expanded with the assistance of the state government.
Research shows the program is modifying behaviours
and getting people to recognise the importance of sharing
books with children.

e. This innovative partnership
between Rio Tinto, the Botanic Gardens and Parks
Authority, Lotterywest and the Water Corporation,
provides 6 hectares of inner-city bush where children can
have fun and learn about the environment.
Our employees are proud of the work that we do, and
contribute widely. In 2011, 6,500 employees participated in
our community volunteering programme, raising more than
$515,000 for 80 Western Australian organisations.
Rio Tinto is one of many companies doing great work in
community investment. If you are not already involved –
get on board.
In the long-term, it is good for employees, good for
communities and good for business. It helps make what we
do worthwhile.
