Story with a silver lining
MORRIE GOODZ
MANAGING DIRECTOR
MACPHERSONS RESOURCES LTD
featuring a first-rate cast
Managing Director Morrie Goodz gives credit to his
hardworking team for the fast turnaround.
What we have at MacPhersons is not only a great asset,
but a good group of people who are committed to seeing
it succeed.”
This also goes for the directors of the company. A
respected mining geologist, Mr Goodz has more than 35
years’ experience in the industry, including nine years in
North America and Africa. Mr Goodz was responsible for
the project conception and discovery of the Daisy Milano
shear zone extension, which led to the success of fellow
West Australian miner Silver Lake Resources.
Chairman Ashok Parekh, a respected chartered
accountant, was also a key player in getting MacPhersons
off the ground. Mr Parekh together with Director Jeff
Williams and Mr Goodz, make up the board. Jeff Williams
comes from an extensive mining background which
includes managing the successful Mineral Deposits Ltd
for 15 years.
Mining engineer Ron Ellis came on board as
MacPhersons’ Operations Manager after three years as
Chief Executive of GBF Underground Mining. “It is great
to have someone of Ron’s calibre on our team; he knows
the industry and has a proven track record in management
and operations,” Mr Goodz said.
The depth continues at MacPhersons with experienced
Goldfields miner and prospector, Ray Wright. Mr Wright
has 45 years of mining industry experience, including
35
years as a mine manager.
Perhaps the most poignant of the MacPhersons
appointments is that of 2012 Amalgamated Prospectors
and Leaseholders Association (APLA) ‘Prospector of the
Year’ – Bill Powell. In 1983 Mr Powell was responsible for
the discovery of his namesake mine, the Powell open pit at
Coolgardie, and then the re-discovery and development of
the nearby MacPhersons Reward mine.
So why is having the right people so important
for MacPhersons?
Without people who know their field, the nuances of
the area and how the local industry works, it would be very
Flying under the radar is something silver has done well in
Australia in recent years, especially in a gold-focused town
like Kalgoorlie. However, just 10 kilometres east of the
famous Super Pit gold mine is a little known mine which
promises great returns for a burgeoning local company.
MacPhersons Resources bought the Nimbus silver mine
in September 2011, and the move heralded an exciting
change in direction for the Goldfields local.
The company started life in 2008 and listed on
the Australian Stock Exchange in December 2010 as
MacPhersons Reward Gold – a nod to its flagship project
in Coolgardie. However, the transition to silver-gold-zinc
exploration resulted in the name change to MacPhersons
Resources, and a notable shift in gear to move to production.
Less than 11 months after acquiring Nimbus, MacPhersons
took the project from zero resource to an impressive 2.8
million tonnes @ 139 g/t containing 12.5 million ounces of
silver equivalent.
