As commodity prices come under increasing
pressure, miners are searching for ways
to improve productivity while lowering
total overall costs. As a leader in blasting
products, mining chemicals and ground
support, Orica is well equipped to assist
miners by tailoring solutions to address
their specific challenges.
We have the blasting technology and
products to deliver these solutions for
underground and open cut mining for
the full suite of metals found in Western
Australia, from iron ore and gold through
to nickel, copper and uranium,” said
Orica’s Iain Simpson, Business Manager –
Western Region.
Mr Simpson said the integration of Orica’s explosives,
mining chemicals and ground support businesses into one unit
was good news for customers. “It means we are now taking a
one-stop’ approach, making it easier for our mining customers
to access all our products and services,” he said.
The mining chemicals portfolio includes sodium cyanide and
a broad range of chemicals for the mining and mineral processing
industry. This offer integrates more broadly with Orica’s full
range of blasting and ground support services. The ground
support range includes both steel and chemical products and a
range of services to improve safe and productive operations.
Customers in the Pilbara region also stand to benefit from
commissioning of the 330,000 tonnes per annum ammonium
nitrate plant on the Burrup Peninsula. A joint venture between
Orica, Yara and Apache, the US$800 million facility is
progressing to schedule with commissioning estimated in late
2015
calendar year.
This facility is a game changer for customers in the north-
west, securing their supplies of ammonium nitrate and providing
the springboard for a full range of Orica services in the Pilbara
region,” Mr Simpson said.
Meanwhile, Orica continues to invest in research and
