much needed expanded iron ore facilities at Esperance. The
development of the iron ore facility at Esperance Port will
provide a substantial economic boost for Western Australia and
will revitalise the local economy of Esperance, and allow for the
development of the Parker Range iron ore project.
There is a good market for the ore. The product is that rare
breed of ultra-low phosphorous iron ore with good calcined iron
grades of around 62% Fe. Further marketable ore is potentially
available from the upgrading of lower grade ores with
preliminary metallurgical testwork indicating good responses
to beneficiation.”
As Cazaly awaits the expansion of Esperance port, it has
turned its focus to a newly acquired copper project located in
WA’s Kimberley region. Since acquiring the earn-in rights to
the Halls Creek copper project in December 2012, the company
has completed several drilling campaigns and has delineated
a significant body of shallow copper and zinc mineralisation.
The deposit is a volcanogenic massive sulphide copper-zinc
deposit, which hosts large widths of near surface sub-horizontal
mineralisation up to 65 metres thick. More recently a ‘feeder
zone’ of higher grade copper was discovered which has the
potential to positively impact on the economics of the deposit.
A maiden resource for the project is due shortly.
Cazaly also has ongoing and successful joint ventures
(
JV) with a number of projects. Its philosophy remains to
develop new projects through JV agreements to expose
shareholders to potential successes over a range of properties
and commodities whilst concentrating on developing its solely
owned key assets. To this end, significant progress is occurring
at the company’s JV projects at Hamersley and Earaheedy (iron
ore) and Huckitta (copper-gold).
Winmar Resources is further developing the Hamersley
project located in the Pilbara near Fortescue’s Solomon project.
Hamersley boasts a resource of 343Mt @ 54.5% Fe (57.9% CaFe).
The deposit remains open in several directions.
Anglo American, the global diversified mining house, has
a farm-in agreement over the Earaheedy JV with both Cazaly
and Vector Resources. “The project occurs in a potentially very
large, newly recognised iron ore province in WA’s Earaheedy
Basin. It is great to have a company with the diverse skill base
that Anglo American has to offer on board,” said Clive Jones.
The Huckitta JV with Mithril Resources (80%) in the Northern
Territory is currently focusing on the Huckitta copper gold
project. The target area is a 50 kilometre belt of anastomosing
shear zones, characterised by siliceous veining and strong
haematite, fluorite and copper mineralisation. Recent work has
highlighted some particularly strongly geophysical anomalies
coincident with outcropping copper mineralisation. These
are currently being drill tested for the first time. Clive Jones
describes Huckitta as a “rare find”.
It is not often that an untested, highly mineralised belt of
rocks over such a large area is discovered in Australia. We are
champing at the bit to get into it!” he commented.
