Member of the Month: Dimitra Pierros

Dimitra Pierros, Manager of Operational Readiness and Interface, has been a valued member of the WA Mining Club for a total of two years. Throughout her membership, Dimitra has appreciated the unique networking opportunities, industry insights, and professional development resources that the Club offers, leading to growth and collaboration within the mining sector.

With 28 years of experience in the mining industry, Dimitra’s career is built on resilience and determination. Born in Australia and raised in Greece, she found her passion for mining early on, inspired by her father’s work as a laboratory technician in a small mining town. Pursuing this interest, Dimitra graduated as a process engineer in Greece, where she worked for 15 years.

Her career path took a pivotal turn in 2011 when the Global Financial Crisis prompted a move back to Australia with her family. Despite initial challenges, including over 500 job applications and 25 interviews, Dimitra secured a role in Townsville. This marked the beginning of a successful career across Papua New Guinea, North Queensland, and Western Australia, with positions ranging from Senior Process Engineer to Process Manager. Her career highlights include roles at BHP and IGO, where she continued to develop her expertise.

Reflecting on her career, Dimitra cites Melinda Addison, her manager at IGO, as her most memorable boss. Melinda’s natural ability to manage even the most difficult situations and employees impressed Dimitra, as did her skill in commanding a room and uniting teams behind her ideas.

If given the opportunity to invite three guests to dinner, Dimitra would choose Aristeidis Sioras, Laura Fernee, and Tabatha Barrett, a group that reflects her personal and professional influences.
