Brightwater Engineering is named after the small New Zealand town of Brightwater, near Nelson. From humble
beginnings in 1979, the company’s five employees serviced local farming and small industrial clients.
As Brightwater’s National Operations Manager, Mathew Fletcher manages all aspects of the company
throughout Australia. He actively participates at a board level with strategic planning initiatives, and is
heavily involved in business development to ensure a strong pipeline of future projects.
As a private company, Brightwater allows Mathew the ability to grow simultaneously with the opportunities
that he presents to it. “I have immediate impact and can make changes to suit the situation in hand”, explains
Mathew. As a strategic thinker, Mathew is usually looking three steps ahead and, with his team’s strong
support, is well positioned to deliver the customer promise.
Mathew is a seasoned leader with experience working in several countries and in different sectors. As a
generalist rather than a specialist, Mathew’s understanding of the key principles about many topics and
industries doubtless helped him when working in Pakistan’s Quetta, near the Afghanistan and Iranian borders.
As Plant Manager for a 140MW power station for General Electric, Mathew successfully overcame a number
of difficult problems encountered due to the remote location amidst a chaotic community. Reflecting on his
career, Mathew is proud of moving from New Zealand to Perth in September 2007 to establish Brightwater’s WA office. From a standing
start, he has built a capable team and business that has successfully delivered more than $150 million of projects around the country.
Mathew enjoys networking with other WA Mining Club members and hearing of their business challenges and successes.
