delivering energy solutions through tight teamwork

In 2011 EDL acquired the company formerly known as enGen as part of its growth strategy.
This section of the business currently operates under the ‘remote energy’ unit.
As EDL’s Senior Business Development Manager, Ian Blacker maintains relationships with customers in
the remote energy business (covering some 32 power stations in Australia), while exploring opportunities
for extensions and expansions. In the greenfields exploration area, new projects meet EDL’s growth targets
but must also meet the company’s values.
EDL’s culture fits with Ian’s own beliefs and drivers. Valuing employees and being highly team orientated
are top priorities for both company and individual, and Ian’s business development team is a close nit group
of driven individuals. Recently the company experienced a great team building exercise across all sectors of
its business when it pulled together one of the biggest tenders in EDL’s history. Counting it as one of his
career highlights to date, Ian recalls the process vividly: “The lead time, which happened over Christmas,
was a quarter of the time normally expected, but the outcome was a well-defined, complying submission”.
That said, Ian believes his biggest achievement is yet to come.
Ian is a relatively new member of the WA Mining Club, and thoroughly enjoys the lunches as opportunities
to engage with other people from the industry.

Energy Developments Ltd (EDL) is an
international provider of safe, clean,
low greenhouse gas emissions energy
and remote energy solutions.
The company owns and operates an
international portfolio of 76 power
stations in Australia, the United States
and Europe, with a total power capacity
of over 700MW, using a range of fuel
sources and operating in areas of
remote energy, landfilled gas and
waste coal mine gas.
Within Australia, EDL is the largest
independent power provider in the
up to 100MW” power stations, and
a leader in the clean energy sector.
The company delivers reliable, optimised
solutions tailored to individual needs,
and its ‘build, own and operate’
methodologies create opportunities for
clients to distribute risk and operating
costs, enabling them to concentrate
on their core business instead.
With the integration of enGen into EDL,
the company has a strong history in WA
and Australia-wide, with clients including
Horizon Power, AngloGold Ashanti,
Barrick, BHP Billiton, Newmont,
Ramelius Resources, Global Advanced
Metals, MMG and Xstrata.
Last year EDL won the contract to
expand Xstrata’s McArthur River
zinc project, having been the sole
power supplier to the mine since its
1995
opening. The expansion project
will see an additional 53MW added
to the existing 24MW power supply,
with commissioning planned for
January 2014.
