FERROWEST LTD
Ferrowest Ltd is the owner and developer
of resource projects with a core focus on
iron projects and a separate business unit
targeting gold and base metals.
The company’s two major iron related
projects, both based around the Yogi
iron ore deposit 233km east of Geraldton
in Western Australia, include Yogi
Iron Project, and Eradu merchant pig
iron (MPI) project. The latter is part of
Ferrowest’s ‘value adding’ strategy to
produce MPI in WA’s mid-west region.
The company has also recently acquired
the rights to earn a 60% interest in
Yalyirimbi iron project, a haematite
project in the Northern Territory, which
Ferrowest manages, and which offers
strategically attractive potential for early
production and cash flow generation.
After deciding in late 2012 to diversify
into other key minerals as well as its
cornerstone projects, Ferrowest has
been actively building a portfolio of
opportunities in gold and base metals
through 100% owned subsidiary
Urban Minerals. Exploration projects
with gold and nickel potential have
been acquired in the Southern Cross
greenstone belt and the Albany-
Fraser area, two highly prospective
geological regions in Western
Australia already hosting significant
deposits including current and
historic mines.
What sets Ferrowest apart from
its peers is its strong focus on value
adding to iron. The company’s team
has extensive experience across
nearly all disciplines needed to manage
the preparation of feasibility studies
and de-risk resource projects in
preparation for mining and operations.
As Ferrowest’s Managing Director, Brett Manning oversees day-to-day operations and manages a small core
team supplemented by specialist consultants as required. Such an approach provides the greatest flexibility
and keeps the work diverse and interesting.
Brett’s 19 years of experience has been in resource project development, with a focus on iron in the
mid-west region where Ferrowest’s flagship iron projects are located. Brett must be across many different
disciplines, and he likes it that way.
The company is pioneering the view that it can do more to iron in Western Australia to add value here,
before exporting. Brett is proudly involved with the Ferrowest team in pushing back the barriers of
WA’s mindset in this important area. In Brett’s opinion, determination to persevere is required in those
developing resource projects, particularly when breaking new ground. “Never give up because nothing
truly great is ever achieved by taking the easy path”, says Brett.
A member for two years now, Brett appreciates hearing the stories and lessons of those that ‘have gone before’ at WA Mining Club lunches.
