MWH has completed hundreds of mining projects around the world – from Australia
to Southeast Asia, the United States, South America and the former Soviet Union.
As MWH’s Country Manager (Australia), Energy and Industry, Chris Sprod is responsible for profitably
growing the company’s mining and upstream oil and gas portfolio, by partnering with clients to solve
problems. Part of MWH’s growth strategy is through strategically aligned acquisitions, which help
MWH broaden its services across the project lifecycle
.
MWH is strongly committed to investing in its
people and providing opportunities to expand horizons, and the company’s full support of Chris’
participation in international courses, and his transition from finance to operations is testament to this.
In 2011, Chris moved to Perth to stabilise an office with high staff turnover and shrinking revenues.
Today MWH achieves significant organic growth and has acquired a leading environmental consultancy
firm, Outback Ecology. Chris reflects he has learned two big lessons in business so far. Firstly to trust
your instincts, for they are usually right, and secondly, if unsure in a situation, listen to the position
adopted by key staff members, and if you believe in them, then support their view.
Having been a WA Mining Club for 18 months now, Chris reflects warmly on the sense of mining history that he gets from attending
the monthly luncheons, and just how committed the mining community is to the sector, through both boom and challenging times.
