Jon Hall is Senior Principal Hydrogeologist and Technical Director – Mine Water Management. He coordinates
the provision of group-wide integrated mine water management services to meet the needs of mining clients,
and also delivers technical input on groundwater management to a broad range of projects, specialising in
mine dewatering and depressurisation.
Jon is proud of the growth in the water management team, originally Aquaterra, from nine in Perth in 1998
to an internationally recognised team of over 100 specialist hydrogeologists, water resources engineers and
groundwater/surface water modellers. The team joined the RPS Group in 2010.
30
+ years’ experience on mine water management projects has taught Jon what projects need and,
more importantly, what works and what does not. He has developed great, long-term working relationships
with a long list of local and international mining clients, and can readily identify which RPS technical
specialists would best provide practical, cost effective solutions to clients’ project issues.
According to Jon, the best solution is not necessarily the most obvious one. “It is important to understand the implications of the
overall project (such as design, mine life, water balance etc.) and to fully explore all options. You may sometimes need to bring in help
from outside your area of expertise to develop a practical solution”, says Jon.
Having joined the WA Mining Club in 1983, membership enables Jon to keep in contact with old industry friends and make new ones.

RPS is an international consultancy
providing specialist services to
the mining sector, including mine
water management, environmental
management, regulatory approvals,
spatial services, cultural heritage, risk
management and health and safety.
The company supports the exploration
and development of world-class,
environmentally responsible mining
projects, and provides ‘end to end’
capability with the expertise and systems to
assist projects from concept to completion.
RPS also has the skills, experience and
relationships necessary to help mining
tackle complex challenges ‘outside the
gate’ of operations, including strategic
advice and delivery of housing and
accommodation, community capacity
building and social infrastructure. The
company has vast experience working with
communities in rural and remote locations,
and strong relationships with indigenous
communities throughout Australia.
Clients vary from emerging explorers
and small-cap companies to major
international mining houses, and
across different mineral types, mining
methods and environments. Importantly,
the company adopts a ‘one business’
approach, where RPS experts can support
local teams when and where required,
within Australia and internationally.
