SEA CONTAINERSWA
seeing sea containers with fresh eyes
Sea Containers WA (SCWA) offers a
full range of shipping products, from
small six-foot containers to common
20
and 40-foot units, through to
refrigerated and offshore rated containers
for both hire and sale. Since its inception
five years ago, the company’s primary
focus has been the sales, hire and
modification of shipping containers
and the quality team of fabricators,
with their reputation for quality
and reliability, deliver a choice of
container modifications, from simple
to complex, challenging projects.
More recently the business has
established a storage arm, with a
strong client base of short and long-
term customers using the containerised
storage solutions at the company’s newly
opened, purpose-built 13,000m
2
yard.
Whilst container solutions are suited
to all industries, SCWA’s modifications
division is more mining-centric, providing
a complete range from simple shelving
making minesite storage more efficient,
through to detailed bespoke workshops.
The company has worked closely
with major companies Forge Group,
Macmahon, Bechtel, UGL, Mineworks
Group, CSBP and others.
The SCWA team are dedicated, skilled
and client-focused, working to the motto:
Have the customer come back, not the
product”. Reinforcing that this motto
works, SCWA recently secured 50% of
a $1 million order from a major mining
contractor who, after all units were
completed and on-site, conveyed a
wish they had given SCWA the whole job.
Comparing SCWA with its competitor,
the description was: “a BMW versus
a Hyundai; at a Honda price!”

SCWA also owns and operates Sea Containers NZ – established in March 2012,
and based in Tauranga, New Zealand with depots throughout the country.
As SCWA’s Managing Director, Kevin Cooper is responsible for “creating and living the vision”. Most of his
time is used keeping staff aware of where the company is going and how it will get there, but he also retains
a strong personal focus on the company’s culture. “We’re only a small team of 13, and my goal is to continually
strengthen the team through training and leadership”, says Kevin.
He has been in the logistics and shipping industries since 1987, and his passion for the merits of sea
containers is clear as he explains: “When I look at a container I don’t just see a shipping container – just
ask my kids!”
Today, the rapid growth of the business and attracting quality staff remain two of Kevin’s key professional
achievements to date, as evidenced by most of the SCWA business coming these days from repeat and
referred customers.
Kevin has been a WA Mining Club member for over three years, and particularly enjoys listening to the
stories of other peoples’ journeys, through attending Club luncheons and networking events.
