SMS Rental exists to facilitate growth
and achievement in Australia’s mining
industry. With a large workshop and
yard situated in Port Hedland servicing
WA’s Pilbara region, there are future
plans to expand into coal mining in
Queensland and NSW. Major clients
include Abigroup, NRW Mining, Leighton
Contractors/HWE, Ngarda Civil and
Mining, Fortescue Metals Group,
BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Aditya Birla,

Shaun Clark is General Manager at SMS Rental (WA), having joined the team at its initial inception in 2006.
Shaun has a genuine passion for both the mining industry and his job. His responsibilities are diverse,
ranging from overseeing the day-to-day operations across WA, managing client relationships, pricing and
negotiating on tenders and contracts, purchasing equipment, managing internal systems, and assisting
with strategic business planning.
One of Shaun’s career highlights has been successfully transitioning the business into a full service mining
equipment rental services provider. The business was previously dedicated to supplying small packages of
equipment on a dry hire basis; whereas the last two years has seen their core business shift to supplying
complete mining fleets and associated on-site maintenance support services, enabling SMS Rental’s clients
focus on what they do best. Shaun is inspired by the challenges and opportunities that the mining industry
provides him with. As he says, “The Australian mining industry is a large, but closely knit community.
Ensuring you maintain a strong business ethic, and a reliable and honest reputation, is key to success”.
A member of the WAMC for four years now, Shaun appreciates the new people he meets through his involvement, and the opportunity
the events provide to gain further exposure for his business. “The contacts I have met through the Club have not only become personal
friends, but amicable business associates as well”, reflects Shaun.
