WESTERNAREAS LTD
award winners with more than just nickel
Western Areas is Australia’s third
largest nickel producer, with high
grade nickel production assets in
Australia and base metals development
projects across Australia, Canada and
Finland. Headquartered in Perth, the
company is listed on the Australian
Securities Exchange.
Production is built around two of the
highest grade underground nickel mines
in the world, Flying Fox and Spotted
Quoll, both within WA’s Forrestania
project area. The high grade nature
of these two mines, coupled with a
consistent track record of meeting
production targets, produce significant
operating margins. As a result Western
Areas maintains continued profits
throughout the nickel commodity
price cycle.
Growth and expansion from the
current profitable base is well in hand
via a multi stream strategy including
continued exploration programs, pre-
development projects and a disciplined
approach to potential acquisitions.
Forrestania is Western Areas’ flagship
asset located in WA, and there are also
advanced exploration projects in Canada
and Finland. Western Areas supplies
high quality nickel concentrates from
the minesite to the Nickel West smelter
near Kalgoorlie and to Jinchuan in China,
(
China’s leading nickel metal producer).
Western Areas is regarded as being
one of the lowest cost producers in the
world. With its success based on good
exploration and strong operational
management, it has been awarded
Digger of the Year’, ‘Explorer of the
Year’ and the Premier’s award for
Export Excellence. It is also proud to
support the Spotted Quoll sanctuary at
Perth Zoo, plus the Starlight Foundation
and local community programs.
